3) The BBC mini-series from 1980 starring Elizabeth Garvie as Elizabeth Bennet and David Rintoul as Mr. Darcy.
Besides Jennifer Ehle's, Elizabeth Garvie's is my favorite portrayal of Lizzy Bennet. She is the closest to how I picture the Elizabeth Bennet from the book. If her hair and eyes were a bit darker, she would match how I imagine Elizabeth Bennet practically perfectly.

Here is the first episode of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries.
I recommend watching Lydia Bennet's video blogs as well. Mary Kate Wiles, the actress who plays Lydia, does a wonderful job of adding a lot of depth to her character. Because of her portrayal of Lydia Bennet, I now view the character of Lydia in a new light. When watching The Lizzie Bennet Diaries I began to care about her, and now I fear her downfall with George Wickham. She is the only version of Lydia that I am not constantly irritated with. I'm not saying the actresses who portrayed Lydia Bennet in other film adaptations of Pride and Prejudice weren't good, but Mary Kate Wiles has definitely added something more to Lydia Bennet's character. I highly recommend watching the Maria Lu and Domino episodes, as well. The Lydia Bennet, Maria Lu, and Domino episodes all do an excellent job of adding to the story telling.

Sense and Sensibility:
My favorite film adaptation of Sense and Sensibility is the BBC One version from 2008. I absolutely love this film. I actually prefer it to the 1995 version with Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet, which may come as a surprise to some (I have observed that the 1995 film is well liked).

I really like the soundtrack for Sense and Sensibility 2008. It's one of my most favorite soundtracks of all.
Also, Matthew Crawley from Downton Abbey is in the 2008 version. So of course it's awesome. :D
Emma:
I feel that I am in the minority when it comes to which version of Emma I prefer. I prefer the 1996 version with Gwyneth Paltrow to the 2009 version with Romola Garai.

Gwyneth Paltrow as Emma Woodhouse (left) and Jeremy Northam as Mr. Knightley (right) in Emma (1996). |
Although many love the 2009 version, I find I personally like the 1996 version with Gwyneth Paltrow as Emma Woodhouse more. One of the reasons I prefer the 1996 version is that I like the sense of humor better than the sense of humor in the 2009 version. I also think the bright colors and liveliness of the 1996 version fit the spirit of the book.
Persuasion:

Ciaran Hinds as Captain Wentworth (left) and Amanda Root as Anne Elliot (right) in Persuasion (1995). |
My favorite versions of Persuasion are 1995 with Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds, and 2007 with Sally Hawkins and Rupert Penry-Jones. I like both of these film adaptations equally. They are both wonderful in their own way. I just can't really put one above the other. They are equally good in my eyes, though different.
